For “Gilmore Girls” fans that were dismayed at the idea of a Netflix relaunch of the series without Melissa McCarthy along for the ride as Stars Hollow’s resident chef, there’s good news: The “Spy” star will be making an appearance after all.
McCarthy broke the big news while sitting down with Ellen DeGeneres for an interview.
“There has something I’ve been asked about so, so many times, and it hasn’t worked out. They’re making four new movies of ‘Gilmore Girls,’ which is a show that was near and dear to my heart for four years, and we could not get those schedules to work,” McCarthy explained. “There was a whole thing, and then I was going to be out of the country.
But all of that apparently has changed. “Literally about an hour and a half ago, we figured out that I’m going to go back and do it, and I am so excited,” she said. “They’re going to be amazing.”READ MORE: Amy Smart On 'DC's Stargirl': 'It's Pure Entertainment'
The Los Gatos-based Netflix relaunch was announced late last year, with news of the return of other cast members — including Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel and Jared Padelecki — coming soon after. But McCarthy, it seemed, was destined to not be a part of it.
“[S]adly no one asked me or Sookie to come back to Stars Hollow. Wish them all the best!!” she tweeted in February.
“I’ve been told by her people for months, ‘Can’t happen. Can’t happen. Can’t happen,'” series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino told Entertainment Weekly. “I know what the scene is. I’ll pre-light it for her. She can drive up, run in, shoot it and run out. I can get her in and out in two hours. If she finds that time, I don’t care when it is, we will make it happen.”
And it looks like they did.
