(98.7AMP RADIO) – As Vanessa Hudgens geared up for her role on FOX’s highly-anticipated Grease Live! this weekend, she received some devastating news.

Just hours before the performance on Sunday, the Salinas-born, former “High School Musical” starlet revealed that her father Greg had passed away after a battle with cancer.

“I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer,” she tweeted. “Thank you to everyone who kept him in your prayers. Tonight, I do the show in his honor.”

And honor him she did, as the 27-year-old received rave reviews for her performance as Rizzo.

Hudgens’ boyfriend and Former “Carrie Diaries” actor, Austin Butler, who recently lost his mom Lori to cancer, also took to Twitter to share love for his lady.

“WOW @VanessaHudgens singing ‘Worst Things’ had me in tears,” he said. “Just brilliant #GreaseLive.”
