(CBS NEWS) – Before winning her Golden Globe Award for her starring role in “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” Rachel Bloom posted an Instagram video of herself clad in a corset and Spanx dancing and singing to a “Sexy Golden Globey Song,” a parody of her character’s “Sexy Getting Ready Song” from the show’s pilot season.
“The show is all about deconstructing stereotypes, and it’s all about playing with the juxtapositions between beauty and ugly, glamour and normal, depression and happiness. Like it’s all about these opposites. And I thought it was only fair on a night where I was going to look so incredibly glamorous to show what goes into that,” Bloom said.
In her acceptance speech for the best actress in a television comedy or musical series, Bloom, who is also the co-creator and executive producer of the show, recounted how the pilot for “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” got six rejections from big networks in one day.
“We almost didn’t have a show,” she said onstage, going on to excitedly and assertively thank CW President Mark Pedowitz.
Bloom said her recent rise to stardom happened “very, very quickly.”
“Eight months ago I didn’t have a television show, and I was broke, partially because I’m horrible at saving money. But within a very short amount of time, I’m the lead of a television show and I have a Golden Globe, and so I really see what goes into being on television,” she said.
The actress said winning the Golden Globe was overwhelming.
“I mean it was quite surreal,” Bloom said. “The whole thing felt like a weird dream I was about to wake up from.”
