BEVERLY HILLS, CA (KBCW) – It’s one thing to be a first time nominee and even better to win your first Golden Globe Award. That’s exactly what happened Sunday night for both the CW and for ‘Jane The Virgin’ star Gina Rodriguez. This win also marks the first award to the CW.

Rodriguez was nominated for Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy. She was in some amazing company with fellow actresses Lena Dunham of “Girls,” Edie Falco for “Nurse Jackie,” Taylor Schilling of “Orange Is The New Black” and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in “Veep.”

When her named was called by actress Kerry Washington and Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston, Rodriguez sprinted from way in the back where she sat. On stage, while fighting back tears of joy, she thanked CBS Chairman Les Moonves, CW’s Mark Pedowitz, her family and her second family, the cast and crew of “Jane The Virgin.”

More poignant was the moment Rodriguez said “This award is so much more than myself,” as she held back her tears. “It represents a culture that wants to see themselves as heroes. My father used to tell me to say every morning: ‘Today is going to be a great day. I can and I will.’ Well, Dad. Today is a great day. I can and I did.”

Earlier, “Jane The Virgin” was among the shows the CW announced to return for another season. All-new episodes of “Jane The Virgin” return to KBCW 44 Cable 12 on Monday, January 19th.
