(CBS NEWS) – Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are no longer.
The couple, who have been together since meeting on the set of 2010’s “The Last Song,” have called off their engagement. Cyrus, 20, and Hemsworth, 23, have been the subject of many breakup reports before, but this is the first time their reps called the split official.
The star-couple fell for each other in 2009 while shooting the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ “The Last Song.” They got engaged in May 2012 when Hemsworth proposed with a 3.5-carat ring from jeweler Neil Lane. In the days following the engagement, Cyrus sent a flurry of tweets, writing, “Heaven is a place on earth. And in other tweets, she said, “I love you more today than yesterday but I love you less today than I will tomorrow….” and “life is beautiful.”READ MORE: Amy Smart On 'DC's Stargirl': 'It's Pure Entertainment'
But apparently life together hasn’t been as “beautiful” as they may have expected. Over the last year, rumors of a split have popped up multiple times. Nearly every time Cryus was spotted without her engagement ring, speculation started to spread. In March, the former “Hannah Montana” star fought off breakup rumors, insisting they were still together. But the following month, Cyrus’ father, Billy Ray Cyrus, said he wasn’t sure they would get married. In August, though, the couple stepped out together at the Los Angeles premiere of “Paranoia,” which kept everyone guessing. Although they posed together on the red carpet, onlookers had said they didn’t appear too friendly with each other.
