(KBCW) – Following a lengthy break from the music scene due to throat issues, John Mayer is now going back to doing what he loves most.
The singer-songwriter is finishing up a new album while preparing to go on tour this summer, and on Tuesday he released his latest single, “Paper Doll,” accompanied by a surreal music lyric video.
The clip opens with an introduction from Joanna Rohrback, a.k.a. the founder of the “prancercise” viral video craze. As Mayer’s new song kicks in, Rohrback then begins “prancercizing” down a quiet residential street in almost one continuous take for the remainder of the music video.
Visuals aside, the new Mayer track has been getting attention for its lyrical content, which some say includes references to his former flame Taylor Swift.
The two performers are said to have dated in 2009, and the “Your Body Is A Wonderland” singer has previously voiced his upset with Swift’s 2010 single “Dear John,” which included perceived digs about Mayer.
Could the following line in “Paper Doll” be a reference to Swift?
“You’re like 22 girls in one, and none of them know what they’re running from,” Mayer croons in the new single.
In March, Swift released a single called “22.” In “Dear John,” she sang about Mayer painting her a blue sky.
“And if those angel wings don’t fly / Someone’s gonna paint you another sky,” goes another one of the lines in “Paper Doll.”
Mayer has yet to comment publicly, but who knows, maybe the song is about one of his other famous exes; he has dated Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson and Katy Perry, to name a few.
