SALT LAKE CITY, UT (KBCW) – Can one actor handle more than one superhero role? In the case of Robbie Amell, it seems that being Firestorm is not enough. He setting his sights on playing Terry McGinnis in Batman Beyond, according to Comicbook.com.
While at a panel at the Salt Lake Comic Con over the weekend, Amell answered “I am a huge fan of that idea!”
However, Amell felt that a more grittier storyline and lower budget would work better. “I think the smartest idea for them would be to make it like a $30 million movie. Don’t do like a $200 million blockbuster, do a dark, gritty version of Batman Beyond.” Amell said. “The visual effects have come so far that you don’t need $200 million to show the technology that they have. Make it a nice, grounded character piece. But I don’t run studios, so that means nothing.”
This is not the first time we’ve seen actors play more than one comic book character. Chris Evans made the jump from playing The Human Torch, Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four films, to becoming Captain America in the Marvel Studio films. Ben Affleck went from playing Marvel’s Daredevil, co-starring his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, to becoming the Dark Knight in DC’s highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
If Robbie Amell were to be the next Batman, the actor feels that it will be a long time coming. “…they won’t make the Batman Beyond movie until I’m too old to be Terry McGinnis.” Amell says. “By then I’ll probably be the old, crusty Batman. But I’m a huge fan of that idea. I think it would be a great property.”
