(KBCW) – It looks like we have the first major star to join the cast of the upcoming Star Wars anthology movie, “Rogue One.” Academy Award-winner Forest Whitaker. According to Variety.com, Whitaker is in talks to visit that galaxy far, far away along with Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn and Riz Ahmed.
The film is set between “Episode III: Revenge of The Sith” and “Episode IV: A New Hope” and is described as a war movie, along the lines of “Saving Private Ryan” and “Platoon” to which Whitaker has starred. The storyline is based on the how the plans to Death Star were stolen by the Rebellion and eventually delivered to Princess Leia in “A New Hope.” It is still not yet known to Whitaker’s role in the film.
Whitaker will soon appear in Antoine Fuqua’s boxing film “Southpaw” co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal. “Star Wars: Rogue One” is scheduled to hit theaters on December 16, 2016.
