(KBCW) – A man who started his life as a woman is running away with a competition to find the next cover model for Men’s Health Magazine.
Aydian Dowling has nearly three times as many votes as the closest competitor in the “Ultimate Guy Search.” The 27-year-old New Yorker has chronicled his transition to life at a man on his YouTube channel. Here’s compilation video he posted of the process:
Dowling had gained national fame earlier this year when he imitated an Adam Levine photo shoot in an effort to break stereotypes of what being transgender means. Despite the notoriety, he seems surprised by the support he’s received since entering the contest.
Dowling says winning the Men’s Health “search for the guy who possesses all of the qualities that make up today’s well rounded, active, health conscious and thoughtful guy” would be a game changer for the LGBT community.
“I want to break the stereotype of what a man should or shouldn’t be,” he told People Magazine. “I think it would blow minds. I think it would be so affirming to young kids who are lost right now and depressed to see somebody on a magazine, to see if I can do it, they can do it too.”
Dowling has seen a swell of support both in the poll but also on social media, where the Twittershpere is getting his back:
If he claims the final tally, Dowling will be featured on the magazine’s November cover.
