Expect protests Friday near the Marriott Hotel in Oakland, over the “Urban Shield” expo, which showcases SWAT team training and weapons. Protesters said the event glorifies the militarization of police.

It’s the final day of the NATO summit in Wales. ISIS and Ukraine will remain top of mind at the summit, as a new round of sanctions against Russia could be imposed as soon as Friday.

At 8 p.m., the annual televised fundraiser “Stand up to Cancer” will be shown on KPIX 5 and across all major networks. The telethon will feature stars of stage, screen and music. There will be viewing parties across the Bay Area, including the pizza factory in San Jose, Moon’s Family Sports Pub in San Mateo and the Dragon Bar and Grill in Oakland.

The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk’s “Camp Out for Cancer” also starts at 8 p.m. The overnight event and concert raises money for the American Cancer Society.

The 92nd season of the San Francisco Opera opens Friday with a grand ball with fine dining, dancing and of course opera. They will be performing “Norma” by Vincenti Bellini.
