(CBS NEWS) – “The Simpsons” bid farewell to Mrs. Krabapple — the wisecracking teacher played by the late Marcia Wallace — with a touching scene during this weekend’s episode.

When Wallace died in October at the age of 70, “Simpsons” showrunner Al Jean said her “irreplaceable” character would be retired from the show.

Bart Simpson mourned the loss with a chalkboard gag during an episode that aired in November, but Sunday’s episode, titled “The Man Who Grew Too Much,” ended with what seems to be a final goodbye for the character.

In the brief scene, Mrs. Krabapple is remembered by Ned Flanders (they married in a 2012 episode of the show). Watch the touching moment at CBSNews.com
